Today's Google Doodle Celebrates Chilaquiles: The Ultimate Breakfast Delight

Today's Google Doodle Celebrates Chilaquiles: The Ultimate Breakfast Delight

Today's Google Doodle is a food lover's dream. It celebrates one of my all-time favorite breakfast dishes, the delectable chilaquiles, which I’ve enjoyed not once, but twice this week.

Google commissioned Oakland-based guest artist Chava Oropesa to create the Doodle.

Chilaquiles are a simple yet versatile dish. At its core, all you need are fried tortilla strips or chips, enchilada sauce, cheese, and a fried egg or two. Simply cover the chips with enchilada sauce and cheese, heat it up, top with eggs, and enjoy. It's easy, quick, and delicious!

As with all Mexican dishes, the style of chilaquiles you’ll encounter in Mexico varies by region.

You can customize chilaquiles with avocado, guacamole, salsa, cotija cheese, melted queso, jalapeños, or whatever your heart (or stomach) desires, including slow-cooked pork or chicken. For a creative twist, you might even consider making a green chile gravy and creating a hybrid biscuits and gravy chilaquiles, perhaps using corn muffins instead.

My point is, if you haven't tried chilaquiles before, now's the perfect time to do so. You can choose between red or green enchilada sauce; canned is perfectly acceptable, but if you're feeling ambitious, you can make it from scratch. Just be careful not to overcook the eggs—you want the yolks to be nice and runny. Another great tip is to make your own tortillas. Use some for tacos at dinner, and fry up the leftovers for a delicious breakfast the next day.

I tried McDonald’s Grandma McFlurry so you don’t have to. Here’s my review.

I tried McDonald’s Grandma McFlurry so you don’t have to. Here’s my review.

So, a grandma whipped up this McFlurry? McDonald’s unveiled its newest limited-time dessert creation, the "Grandma McFlurry," hitting stores this Tuesday. If the name leaves you scratching your head, you're not the only one. I just took a bite, and I'm still trying to decipher its ingredients. While McDonald’s usual McFlurry offerings like the Oreo McFlurry and M&M McFlurry are pretty straightforward, naming one after the family matriarch... well, that needs a bit of explanation.

The dessert is described in the press release as a delightful combination of "delicious syrup and chopped, crunchy candy pieces (reminiscent of grandma’s cherished treat she tucked away in her purse!)" blended with creamy vanilla soft serve ice cream. It strikes me that everyone's grandma had her own unique candy preferences—my Aunt Sis, for instance, always spoiled me with licorice. So, where's my licorice McFlurry? However, upon perusing the photos, it becomes evident that this dessert is paying homage to Werther's Original butterscotch hard candies. It's undeniably fitting to dub them "grandma candies."

Call me old-fashioned, but those little butterscotch candies always bring a smile to my face. So when I heard about this new dessert, I was intrigued, even though I couldn't quite grasp the connection. I mean, shouldn't we honor our grandparents every day, not just on National Grandparents Day in September? And I highly doubt my grandmother has ever even heard of a McFlurry, let alone tried one. What's truly amusing about McDonald’s launching a big McFlurry campaign is the notorious reputation of their ice cream machines—they're almost always "broken." The frequency of these malfunctions has spawned conspiracy theories and even attracted federal attention. As someone well-versed in fast food culture, my hunch is that McDonald’s employees simply dread the hassle of preparing these labor-intensive desserts. You might encounter similar excuses if you dare to order a milkshake during the graveyard shift at a diner. Trust me, it's a lesson learned the hard way—never order a milkshake at midnight.

Aerial video shows decimation in Greenfield, Iowa, after tornado

GREENFIELD, Iowa – The town of Greenfield in southwest Iowa was directly hit by a massive tornado as severe weather swept across the Midwest on Tuesday.

"It's not good. I can say that much," said FOX Weather Storm Tracker Brandon Copic, one of the first on the scene after the devastation.

"I can't speak on casualties or anything like that. I'm not emergency management or anything of that sort," Copic told FOX Weather Meteorologist Steve Bender during an interview. "But most of this town is gone, Steve. There's no other way to put it. Most of this town's gone."

One Dead and Over 71 Injured After Severe Turbulence Strikes Singapore Airlines Flight

One Dead and Over 71 Injured After Severe Turbulence Strikes Singapore Airlines Flight.

Bangkok, Thailand(CNN )—
One passenger died and 71 were injured when a Singapore Airlines flight from London to Singapore encountered severe turbulence on Tuesday. The turbulence threw passengers and crew around the cabin, forcing the plane to make an emergency landing in Bangkok.

The Boeing 777-300ER had been in the air for about 10 hours and was midway through meal service when it hit turbulence over Myanmar’s Irrawaddy Basin, according to the airline.

Andrew Davies, a passenger on flight SQ321 traveling to New Zealand for business, told CNN’s Erin Burnett that the flight had been “perfectly normal” until the seatbelt sign came on and, seconds later, “all hell broke loose.”

"The plane suddenly felt like it dropped. It probably only lasted a few seconds, but I vividly remember seeing shoes, iPads, iPhones, cushions, blankets, cutlery, plates, and cups flying through the air and crashing into the ceiling. The gentleman next to me had a cup of coffee, which spilled all over me and shot up to the ceiling," Davies recounted.
Davies realized the severity of the turbulence when he turned around and saw several passengers with gashes on their heads, including one woman with blood pouring down her face and an elderly passenger in severe shock.
"There was so much screaming," he said.
Videos and images from inside the aircraft showed the extent of the damage: overhead compartments smashed open, emergency oxygen masks hanging from the ceiling, and a section of the galley ceiling open with parts of the plane's interior hanging down. Trays, containers, plastic bottles, and hot beverage pots were strewn across the floor.
A 73-year-old British man, identified as Geoff Kitchen, died in the incident from a suspected heart condition, according to Kittipong Kittikachorn, the General Manager of Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport. The autopsy process is still ongoing. Kitchen was described by the Thornbury Musical Theatre Group (TMTG), where he worked for over 35 years, as "always a gentleman with the utmost honesty and integrity."
The British Foreign Office told CNN it was supporting the family of the British passenger who died on the Singapore Airlines flight.
Davies, who was seated toward the front of the plane, said he helped tend to Kitchen, who was seated behind him.
